Aberdeen Foyer partnership builds digital confidence and employability

Aberdeen Foyer certificates

Funding from Port of Aberdeen’s multi-year strategic charity partnership is helping Aberdeen Foyer strengthen digital inclusion, learning and employability for young people and adults.

The funding supported digital cafés and digital confidence sessions, accredited training, work placements and online modules covering wellbeing, independence and professional skills.

The results included:

  • 94% of participants reporting increased digital confidence
  • 41 digital kits distributed
  • 205 people accessing employability training

Young people living in supported accommodation particularly benefited, gaining valuable skills for independent living.

“The digital support I received helped me feel confident enough to apply for jobs online. Before this, I didn’t even know where to start.”

Partnership in action

The partnership has also created opportunities for Port of Aberdeen colleagues to support Aberdeen Foyer directly.

CEO Bob Sanguinetti DL took part in the CEO Sleepout and raised £7,200, including matched funding, for Aberdeen Foyer and other charities working to prevent homelessness in Aberdeen.

Amber Inglis, People and Culture Advisor, supported an Aberdeen Foyer careers fair and volunteered at its Christmas party.

Stephen Perry, Environmental Intern, was also one of 750 people who ran along Aberdeen’s beachfront dressed as Santa Claus to raise funds for the charity.

The activity reflects Port of Aberdeen’s aim to build long-term relationships with its charity partners, combining funding with fundraising, volunteering and practical support.
