Strategic Charity Partnerships

In March 2024, Port of Aberdeen launched multi-year strategic charity partnerships, with the objective of deepening the port's impact and fostering strong, lasting community relationships.

Our goal is to establish long term partnerships with charitable organisations, striving to create substantial and sustainable social impact while implementing mutually beneficial initiatives that resonate with our core values:

  • Safe and thriving communities – supporting those most in need in our community.
  • Supporting a sustainable future – tackling climate change in the North East of Scotland and beyond.
  • Inspiring the next generation – supporting primary pupils to university leavers into STEM and maritime careers.

"As a thriving Trust Port in the city centre, we're ramping up our support for local organisations that provide vital services to our community. With the current high demand on third sector services and many facing budget cuts, we're responding with a solid commitment of significant, multi year funding and wider support to our new strategic charity partners."

Charity Partnership in action: Aberdeen Foyer

Over the past year, our Strategic Charity Partnership with Aberdeen Foyer has enabled them to offer consistent, much-needed digital access to the people they work alongside who were being excluded from the digital world, with 94% reporting increased confidence in their digital skills.

Working together we've supported:

  • 69 young people living in Aberdeen Foyer supported accommodation with digital skills.
  • 20 digital cafes – informal, friendly sessions offered a safe and welcoming space for people to explore and build digital confidence at their own pace.
  • 205 people to use technology in ways that are relevant to them – from CV writing and job searching, to preparing for roles in growing sectors including renewables and green jobs.
  • 28 justice experienced clients to build their digital skills needed to practice for their CSCS card tests – an important step toward accessing construction roles.
  • 25 participants to navigate everyday digital tasks that many of us take for granted – such as booking GP or dental appointments online, ordering prescriptions, accessing mental health support, and using trusted websites to find reliable health information.
  • Delivery of a weekly class for 10-12 participants per week looking to progress to ECDL.
  • A four-week work placement within the port's SHEQ Department to a young person participating in our Pathways to Possibilities programme.
  • Provision of 311 digital kits to participants.
