IT Engineer
Location: Aberdeen
Role: Full time, 36.5 hours
Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum dependent on experience

We’re looking for IT Engineer to join the Technology Department at Port of Aberdeen and be responsible for the effective day-to-day operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the organisation’s IT infrastructure. The role provides a wide range of technical support services, including end-user desktop support, troubleshooting hardware, software, and ancillary IT/OT equipment issues, as well as back-end database and server administration and cloud platform configuration.
Skills, experience and qualifications
- Proven experience in an IT infrastructure engineering role or similar.
- Strong experience supporting enterprise Windows and Linux Server environments.
- Good working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file services such as SMB and DFS.
- Experience with server virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V etc.)
- Experience of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Experience supporting network infrastructure and security technologies.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 and/or Azure administration.
- Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues across infrastructure platforms.
- Experience of infrastructure changes, upgrades, and project delivery.
- Good documentation skills and ability to produce clear technical procedures.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to work to short deadlines and unexpected change of plans.
- Strong understanding of IT security principles and infrastructure best practice.
- Experience of scripting and automation would be beneficial, particularly PowerShell.
- Experience with backup products such as Veeam or similar.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, planning and execution skills.
- Ability to quickly gain new skills and knowledge when faced with new challenges
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong focus on technology
- Able to prioritise workload and manage multiple technical tasks.
- Ability to produce reports from database systems (using Power BI desirable)
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical colleagues.
- Methodical approach to troubleshooting and documentation.
